Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery
24th Annual Catch a Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby
Opportunity Description
http://www.catcharainbow.org/site/page003.aspx
The Annual Kid's Fishing Derby began in the summer of 1986. Several local individuals believed that the trout stream below the Hatchery could be utilized for more than just releasing trout into the river. The Hatchery Manager at that time, Richard "Dick" Hale, started the first ever Kid's Fishing Derby. Dick, along with his wife, Lois, saw the need to have a facility for kids to be able to fish. Thus, an idea and an annual event was born. The Derby is organized by the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. Their motto is Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs. They believe that this Fishing Derby provides children, and especially parents an enjoyable dayfull of fishing, outdoor fun, food, and prizes The purpose of the Fishing Derby is to encourage parents and children to enjoy a expense-free outing which allows them to experience a day full of fishing, outdoor fun, and prizes thanks to the numerous derby sponsors
